Action Member: Jackie Chan

It’s fair to say that ‘Battle Creek Brawl’ is an unfair representation of Jackie Chan’s undoubted talents.

‘Chinese Zodiac’ gives Jackie Chan fans (including me), who had been awaiting its arrival especially eagerly, very little to get excited about.

Chan’s choreography is the only minor highlight, but otherwise this is really only suitable for hardcore Angela Mao fans.

‘Dragon Blade’, for the most part is an entertaining ride but sways inconsistently between hard hitting period action and cheesy dramatics.

Jackie Chan is given one of his more serious roles and succeeds in giving a fine performance both in the acting and the fighting departments.

Chan tries to introduce the new quick-cut style of action alongside a significant measure of pure entertainment and humour.

With excellent action, a few chuckles and Jackie’s charm the film is an enjoyable watch.

Vitally, ‘First Strike’ is still full of the energy and invention that leaves so many other action films pale in comparison.

While there are flashes of his trademark fight scenes, it’s the fairy tale love story that always takes precedence.

By no means a classic, ‘Half A Loaf Of Kung Fu’ is still an undemanding and quite enjoyable early Chan film.

It’s definitely still a Chan movie through and through though, and as bizarre as it sounds, it does give you a slapstick yet emotional tour de force with a cutting edge.

Jackie openly admits that this film was intended to answer the critics who saw him as just an action star/director. What an answer it proved to be!
