When the main story takes centre stage, the viewer’s interest is likely to be lost and the plot-holes difficult to reconcile.

A tapestry of emotion, audaciously flashing backwards and forwards and shifting voice-overs to piece together the moments that have led the characters to the barren wastes of the desert.

This lacklustre and also very sluggish remake, comes from Nicholas Cage and the Pang Brothers once again and offers nothing new to say and pretty much suffers from the same problems as the original.

‘Cold War’ is consistently entertaining and its massive success at the Hong Kong box-office shows that it clearly struck a chord with local audiences.

Like the first film, it is a slick and intense thriller that boasts solid performances from its cast.

While not proving to be a significant mark in the pages of Hong Kong film history, ‘Downtown Torpedoes’ is still a pleasant diversion that achieves most of its goals.

The action is about only thing that makes ‘Dr. Wai’ worth watching, with Li on typically fine form for a couple of battles with some interesting opponents.

‘Fallen Angels’ may be nice to look at, but may be equally interesting to watch with the sound off as it has very little real soul beyond its sleek facade.

‘Future Cops’ is definitely worth a look for its crazy action and glittering cast, but be warned that the middle section may make you reach for the fast-forward button.

This action comedy is undoubtedly at its best when Jet Li is given centre stage and allowed to show off his smooth physical moves.

‘Kung Fu Killer’, despite its B-movie title and the odd moment of cheesiness, comes very close to bringing back the elation one felt when watching golden era Hong Kong action cinema.

‘Love In The Time Of Twilight’ is the kind of film that starts awkwardly but increases in stature as the story continues.
