The real problem of ‘King Of Beggars’ is that there is a lack of focus on what should be the main strength of the production.

It just appears that Wong Jing wanted to please everyone by cramming the storyline with action, crazed innuendo and sudden plot twists.

‘Love Undercover 3’ is packed with a cast all too willing to overact for the camera while also featuring a somnolent leading man who offers little for Sit to work with.

Though director Norman Law sets up a few interesting rivalries between the characters, the film tends to get too bogged down in its teen romance sub-plot.

One’s enjoyment of ‘My Kung Fu Sweetheart’ depends on one’s appreciation, or tolerance, for Wong Jing’s films.

‘Satan Returns’ can’t decide if it’s a serious dark thriller or a goofy over-the-top action horror combo.

Normally the framework of such a film is at least clichéd, but here it is simply bizarre and uninvolving.

‘The East Is Red’ ends the popular series with a visual bang that pummels the viewer relentlessly. Unfortunately the exercise is very much one of style over substance and the overall effect is a bewildering one.

Not only does it contain some of Stephen Chow’s most finely honed comedy, but it also sees him giving one of his more heartfelt and dramatic performances.

There’s little to recommend this uncomfortable kung fu comedy so don’t be in any hurry to watch it.

‘The World Of Treasure’ notches up the odd moment of entertainment during its course and arouses sporadic interest. However, as a Michael Hui film, or even a general Hong Kong comedy it is found wanting.

‘Wing Chun’ is not a bad film by any means. In fact, it is quite enjoyable, but only for those partial to Hong Kong style zany comedy, and wire-worked action sequences.
