While ‘Iron Angels’ may not be the best Hong Kong action film from the city’s movie heyday, it’s certainly a benchmark in the battling babes genre.

This is the definitive comedy horror, which coupled with Sammo Hung’s own ‘Encounter Of The Spooky Kind’ provide the two greatest examples of the genre, and therefore should not be missed.

Not a waste of time by any means, and certainly a nice addition to the main stars filmographies, however, it is certainly not up to the standard of its ground breaking prequel.

This is a modern day martial arts actioner in the style of the 80’s best, and should therefore be sought out by fans of similar fare. It will not disappoint.

By the time the end credits start to run, there is the definite feeling that strong potential has been wasted.

The Hong Kong version features watchable new action that is worth tracking down for Chan purists, but as a whole, the film remains on Chan’s ‘avoid list’.

‘Those Merry Souls’ has a strong cast, some genuinely funny moments, and a bizarrely entertaining plot.

While those unfamiliar with its history may find fault with the now-dated effects, it remains a credit to everyone involved that ‘Zu’ still looks fresh almost 20 years after it was first conceived.
