John Woo really surprised the audiences with this mixture of acrobatic gunplay action and comedy.

What the potential viewers will get with this enjoyable production is a solid combination of some amusing comedy scenes, a few dramatic moments and a couple of well choreographed action sequences.

This film has been elevated to cult status in recent years and has become a huge favourite with a world-wide audience. All of this is thoroughly deserved.

While ‘Overheard’ was an excellent homage to the great American conspiracy films of the 70s, the in-name-only sequel is a more routine two hours with a far less incisive denouement.

Episodic like a Hui Brothers film but without the sharp humour, ‘Plain Jane To The Rescue’ is an enjoyable diversion though it may test the patience of some fans.

If the rest of the film had been as good as the last half hour then ‘Prince of the Sun’ would be more fondly remembered.

Part three has none of the charm of the original and doesn’t even stack up well against the second part; this is a lazy, charmless affair that had me looking at the clock every couple of minutes.

While it remains watchable, ‘Red Wolf’ really suffers from its own inability to create anything fresh.

An extremely dated Category III exploitation flick that, a few nasty bits aside, is more camp than cool.

Lau Ching-Wan is simply stunning in the role of Root, putting so much delicate charm and humility in his part that it’s impossible for the viewer not to empathise with him.

‘Shanghai Blues’ is, overall, superior entertainment, but by the time the end credits roll its hard not to think of what might have been.

Another superb Sammo film which sees him team up with Karl Maka for more hijinks.
