Anime Update #6

By   |  Apr 5, 2018

One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda will receive a People’s Honour Award from the Kumamoto Prefectural Government in a ceremony on April 15, 2018. Oda was born in Kumamoto in 1975, and has continued to support the area wherever possible. He has designed boxes for the area’s mandarin oranges and has worked on local revitalisation campaigns, particularly after the prefecture was struck by a series of damaging earthquakes in 2016.

• Here’s the first teaser trailer for ‘My Hero Academia The Movie: The Two Heroes’, an upcoming all-new feature length animated film supervised by manga creator Kohei Horikoshi. Set after the end of term exam, the story apparently finds Deku and All Might visiting a moving city that is attacked by a super villain. Kenji Nagasaki directs and the film is due for release on August 3, 2018.

• Studio Ponoc have announced that they are working on a second feature film entitled ‘Little Heroes – Kani, Tamago, and the Invisible Man’. Founded by former employees of Studio Ghibli, Ponoc made waves in the industry last year after they released their impressive debut movie ‘Mary and The Witch’s Flower’. Unlike their first outing however, this new film will be made up of three fantasy stories that are all helmed by a different director.

• The first OVA (original video animation) in the new ‘The Prince of Tennis: Best Games!!’ series will be released in Japan on October 26. The series, which is made up of reanimated versions of the biggest matches from the show, will begin with Tezuka vs. Atobe at the Kanto Regional Finals. Keiichiro Kawaguchi is directing with Ryotaro Okiayu, Junichi Suwabe, and Junko Minagawa all reprising their respective roles.

• A promotional video has been released for the upcoming original TV anime ‘Phantom in the Twilight’. Directed by Kunihiro Mori, the show revolves around a group of monsters who protect the human world from incursions from the shadow-realm while moonlighting as employees at a midnight cafe. The series will begin broadcasting in July of 2018.
