Anime Update #8
By Phil Mills | Apr 20, 2018
As the new ‘Baki’ (aka ‘New Grappler Baki: In Search of Our Strongest Hero’) anime adaptation prepares to hit Netflix Japan this Summer, the official website has announced the artists who will be handling the theme songs. Japanese rock band GRANRODEO will be responsible for the show’s opening song ‘Beastful’ (available July 11), while voice actress and singer Azusa Tadokoro will perform the ending song ‘Resolve’ (available July 25).
• A new trailer has been released for ‘Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle’ (Godzilla: Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi), the upcoming second film in the new Godzilla anime trilogy. Opening in Japan on May 18, the film finds a group of human survivors returning to Earth 20,000 years in the future and forced to do battle with a new breed of monster, dubbed “Godzilla Earth”.
• An all-new anime feature film based on Tsukasa Hojo’s ‘City Hunter’ action comedy manga is currently in development. Original voice artist Akira Kamiya (now 71 years old) is due to return as Ryo Saeba, alongside Kazue Ikura as the main heroine Kaori Makimura. The film, titled ‘City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes’ (Gekijyoban: City Hunter), is set to be released in Japan in early 2019.
• To promote the Japanese release of the upcoming Marvel movie ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, the main characters from the anime show ‘My Hero Academia’ appeared in several promotional shorts. The idea is to have them introduce and explain the appeal of each of the heroes, some of whom may not necessarily be that familiar to a homegrown audience. A special poster was also produced for the event (see above) and you can watch all of the clips on the official “Special Hero Collaboration” website.
