Blu-ray & DVD release: ‘Tokyo Decadence’

88 Films are bringing the 1992 Japanese erotic drama ‘Tokyo Decadence’ (トパーズ / Topāzu) to UK Blu-ray and DVD on January 29, 2024.

Directed by Ryu Murakami, the film follows a submissive prostitute who is unhappy about her work, suffering at the hands of her clients, and is trying to find some sort of appeasement for the fact that her lover has married. The cast includes Miho Nikaido, Sayoko Amano, Tenmei Kano, Masahiko Shimada, and Yayoi Kusama.

Synopsis: By day, an unassuming 22-year-old college student, by night a high-class call girl specialising in SM, Ai joylessly plies her trade against an anonymous backdrop of plush hotel rooms and gleaming skyscrapers. Haunted by memories of a long-lost lover, Ai increasingly struggles to keep body and soul together as both come under increasing duress as she caters to a succession of wealthy businessmen and coke-fuelled yakuza bosses driven to ever greater extremes to satisfy their jaded and perverse appetites.
