Blu-ray & 4K UHD release: ‘Godzilla vs. Biollante’

The Criterion Collection are bringing the 1989 Japanese kaiju movie ‘Godzilla vs. Biollante’ (ゴジラvsビオランテ) to US and UK Blu-ray and 4K UHD on March 18, 2025.

Written and directed by Kazuki Omori, the film follows a geneticist who creates a monstrous new mutation in an effort to protect humanity from the threat of Godzilla. The cast includes Kunihiko Mitamura, Yoshiko Tanaka, Masanobu Takashima, Koji Takahashi, Toru Minegishi, and Megumi Odaka.

Synopsis: After the previous Godzilla attack, a miniature arms race ensues to collect his cells. Concerned over Godzilla’s possible return, the Japanese government uses the cells to create a new bio-weapon, ANEB (Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria). They seek the aid of geneticist Genshiro Shiragami, whose experiments result in a new mutation.
