88 Films are bringing the 1988 Hong Kong supernatural romantic-drama ‘Rouge’ (胭脂扣) to UK Blu-ray on January 20, 2025.

Based on a novel by Lilian Lee and directed by Stanley Kwan, the film revolves around a pair of doomed lovers who agree to a suicide pact in the hopes of reuniting on the “other side”. The cast includes Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung, Alex Man, Emily Chu, and Irene Wan.

Synopsis: Fleur (Anita Mui) is the blue angel in one of Hong Kong’s “flower houses” – bordellos and nightclubs of the 1930s. A detached and beautiful performer, she falls in love with Twelfth Master Chan (Leslie Cheung), heir to a chain of pharmacies. As his family disapproves of their relationship, they agree to a suicide pact. Fifty years later, in modern Hong Kong, Fleur’s ghost appears in Yuen’s (Alex Man) newspaper office, wanting to place an ad to find Chan, who never arrived in the afterlife. Yuen, and his equally bewildered girlfriend, Ah Chor (Emily Chu), are captivated by Fleur and her story.
