Phillip Ko Fei passes away at 67

By   |  Apr 5, 2017

Veteran Hong Kong film actor, director, producer and action choreographer Phillip Ko Fei has died at the age of 67.

After studying Choy Li Fut during his formative years, Ko Fei began working in the movies when he was only 19. He initially found work as a stuntman and extra at the Shaw Brothers studios, appearing in numerous films directed by the likes of Chang Cheh, Chor Yuen and Liu Chia-Liang. Although he never really made the leap to leading man, he still managed to appear in over 240 films, with his most notable credits coming from movies such as ‘The Killer Meteors’, ‘The Hot, the Cool and the Vicious’, ‘The Mar’s Villa’, ‘Dreadnaught’, ‘Legend of a Fighter’, ‘Shaolin Intruders’, ‘Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars’, ‘Tiger on the Beat’, ‘Dragons Forever’, ‘Eastern Condors’, and ‘On The Run’.

In the 1980s, Ko Fei made the move into directing with the crime thriller ‘Dirty Angel’ starring Norman Chui and Danny Lee. It was here that he clearly found his passion as he continued to helm projects right up until the early 2000s. While it’s fair to say that he never really had a mainstream hit, he did make a number of fun low budget actioners like ‘Guns & Roses’, ‘Killer’s Romance’, ‘Angel on Fire’, ‘Millennium Dragon’, and ‘Final Run’.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
