‘Road to Boston’ (1947보스톤) is a 2023 South Korean biographical sports drama written and directed by Kang Je-Gyu.
The film tells the story of Korean athletes who participated in the Boston International Marathon in 1947, the first international marathon held since World War II. The cast includes Ha Jung-Woo, Im Si-Wan, Bae Sung-Woo, Jo A-Young, and Park Eun-Bin.
Synopsis: In 1947, two years after Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule, Suh Yun-Bok (Im Si-Wan) is a 24-year-old marathon runner. He prepares for the upcoming 51st Boston Marathon with Head Coach Son Kee-Jung (Ha Jung-Woo) and Coach Nam Seung-Ryong (Bae Sung-Woo). Kee-Jung won the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but because Korea was under Japanese colonial rule at the time, he wore the Japanese flag on his chest. Kee-Jung badly wants his Yun-Bok to win at the 51st Boston Marathon while wearing the Korean flag on his chest. After many difficulties in getting to Boston, they finally arrive one week before the race commences. [Source: AsianWiki]
