‘Blue Period’ (ブルーピリオド) is a 2024 Japanese drama directed by Kentaro Hagiwara.
Based on the manga by Tsubasa Yamaguchi, the film revolves around a successful but bored high school student who is inspired to take up a career in art and discovers his passion for painting. The cast includes Gordon Maeda, Fumiya Takahashi, Rihito Itagaki, Hiyori Sakurada, Hiroko Yakushimaru, and Noriko Eguchi.
Synopsis: Yatora Yaguchi (Gordon Maeda) is liked by his high school classmates and gets good grades, but he feels an emptiness inside. He is struggling with an assignment to paint a favourite landscape in his art class. After much deliberation, he decides to paint “Blue Shibuya at Dawn.” While painting, he feels for the first time that he can express himself. His interest in art develops and he decides to apply to the best art university in Japan, but he faces major hurdles including talented rivals and art that does not have a correct answer.
