‘Firefighters’ (소방관) is a 2024 South Korean disaster drama written and directed by Kwak Kyung-Taek.
The film revolves around an inexperienced firefighter who begins to harbour resentment towards a colleague after he fails to follow orders during an emergency. The cast includes Joo Won, Kwak Do-Won, Yoo Jae-Myung, Lee Yoo-Young, Kim Min-Jae, and Oh Dae-Hwan.
Synopsis: Newcomer Cheol-woong (Joo Won) is assigned to the Rescue Unit of the Fire Station in Seoul. Soon he is sent on his first mission with Jin-seop (Kwak Do-Won), a veteran fireman with a glorious title; the man who saved the highest number of people in a fire. While overwhelmed by fierce fire and pouring smoke, Cheol-woong witnesses Jin-seop searching for occupants contrary to the chief’s withdrawal order. Just before the fire gobbles up the building, Jin-seop manages to escape with a girl in his arms, but a colleague loses their life. Cheol-woong’s fear becomes anger against Jin-seop, and he blames him for his colleague’s death. When their conflict is still at its peak, they’re called to another fire scene which changes their fate for good.
