‘Maru’ (まる) is a 2024 Japanese drama written and directed by Naoko Ogigami.

The film revolves around a struggling artist who is relegated to a mundane job until an unexpected urge propels him to create a unique circle. The cast includes Tsuyoshi Domoto, Go Ayano, Riho Yoshioka, Win Morisaki, and Junki Tozuka.

Synopsis: Sawada is a man who graduated from art college but has been unable to make a living in art. Instead, he is working as an assistant to a popular contemporary artist. He shows no sign of independence, or even the energy to do so, and does what he is told in an indifferent manner. One day, he has an accident on his way to work and loses his job due to an injury to his arm. When he returns to his room, he finds a single ant on the floor. As if guided by the ant, he drew a circle (maru), which spread on social networking sites without his knowledge. Suddenly, everyone knows Sawada, but he gradually becomes obsessed with the circle… [© Far East Films]
