‘Nie Xiaoqian’ (小倩) is a 2024 Chinese animated fantasy romance written and directed by Mao Qichao.

Based on the short story by Pu Songling, the film revolves around a woman who dies and is imprisoned in a temple by her grandmother until a passing scholar accidentally saves her. The voice cast includes Bian Jiang, Zhang Huilin, Chen Zhangtaikang, Zhang Si Wangzhi, and Fu Chenyang.

Synopsis: Nie Xiaoqian, who died with a grudge after being betrayed by someone in her lifetime, was transformed into a female ghost and imprisoned by her grandmother in Lanruo Temple. When Ning Sheng, a scholar, goes to Beijing to take the examination, he stays there and accidentally saves Nie Xiaoqian. On the way to escape, the two of them encountered the obstacles of the earth and the forces of hell, but their relationship warmed up during this experience. Ning Sheng took Nie Xiaoqian to feel the beauty of the earth, and she is determined to return to the sun, but after arriving at the ghost market, she found that things are far from simple… [© Far East Films]
