‘Night Falls’ (夜幕将至) is a 2024 Chinese drama written and directed by Jian Haodong.

The film follows a man as he takes a long trip back to his hometown in the Shanxi Province to attend his grandfather’s funeral. The cast includes Ji Liang and Fei Zuo.

Synopsis: After many years away from his hometown, Liang Zhe returns to the Shanxi Province to attend his grandfather’s funeral. However, the journey home is much longer than he imagined. On the way from the county town to his village, he takes four different modes of transportation, meets elders he hasn’t seen in years, an old classmate driving a coal truck, and even runs into his first girlfriend and picks up a stray dog. A fortune-teller tells him that his life is hard and that he has come to a crossroads, where his hometown seems like a foreign land and the scars of the years still ache faintly. [© Far East Films]
