‘Ransomed’ (비공식작전 / Unofficial Operation) is a 2023 South Korean action thriller directed by Kim Sung-Hoon.
The film revolves around a young diplomat who agrees to take on an unofficial hostage recovery operation in Beirut in the hope that it will improve his career. The cast includes Ha Jung-Woo, Ju Ji-Hoon, Kim Eung-Soo, and Park Hyuk-Kwon.
Synopsis: Min-Joon (Ha Jung-Woo) works for the South Korean government as a diplomat. He doesn’t have anything special in his background to make him stand out but he does have a lot of determination. Min-Joon wants to be assigned to work in the United States, so he volunteers to take on an unofficial operation to save a missing South Korean diplomat under the condition that he will get assigned to the United States afterwards. Min-Joon travels alone to Beirut where he meets Pan-Soo (Ju Ji-Hoon), who is a Korean taxi driver. Pan-Soo is good at speaking the language and knows the streets very well, but he is also a swindler.
