‘Snowflowers: Seeds of Hope’ (雪の花 ともに在りて) is a 2025 Japanese drama directed by Takashi Koizumi.

Based on the novel ‘Yuki no Hana’ by Akira Yoshimura, the film revolves around a doctor who selflessly dedicates his personal fortune to spreading the smallpox vaccination in a small town. The cast includes Tori Matsuzaka, Koji Yakusho, Kyoko Yoshine, Hidetaka Yoshioka, and Takahiro Miura.

Synopsis: During the late Edo period, Ryosaku Kasahara (Tori Matsuzaka) works as a doctor in a small town of the Fukui Domaine. He becomes aware of a surefire way to prevent smallpox which originated from a foreign country. Ryosaku asks Doctor Teisai Hino (Koji Yakusho) in Kyoto for advice and he even spends his own money to bring smallpox seedings to the Fukui Domaine. Ryosaku keeps working on the unprecedented smallpox prevention methods with his wife Chiho Kasahara’s (Kyoko Yoshine) support, despite various difficulties. [Source: AsianWiki]
