‘Strangers in Kyoto’ (ぶぶ漬けどうどす) is a 2025 Japanese comedy-drama directed by Masanori Tominaga.
The film revolves around a freelance writer who moves to Kyoto and begins interviewing locals so that she can write a manga about their lifestyles. The cast includes Mai Fukagawa, Zuru Onodera, Reiko Kataoka, Ritsu Otomo, and Ryuya Wakaba.
Synopsis: Madoka Shibusawa (Mai Fukagawa) works as a freelance writer. She moved to Kyoto from Tokyo after marrying the eldest son of a long-established Kyoto fan shop. She begins interviewing her in-laws and female owners of long-running shops, in order to write a manga about their lifestyles.
