Trailer: ‘Successor’

‘Successor’ (抓娃娃) is a 2024 Chinese comedy co-written and directed by Yan Fei and Damo Peng.

The film revolves around a poor couple who believe that their talented young son is the only hope they have of changing their destiny. The cast includes Shen Teng, Ma Li, Shi Pengyuan, Sa Rina, and Xiao Bochen.

Synopsis: Ma Chenggang (Shen Teng) and Chunlan (Ma Li), who have “no oil in their soup and no money in their pockets”, ride donkeys to work and have a poor family. Their son, Ma Jiye (Xiao Palchen), is their only hope for a change of fortune. Ma is very competitive, getting good grades every year, is not at all petulant, and has a strong will. But as Ma grows up day by day, he gradually notices that the people around him are getting more and more wrong.

‘Successor’ opens across China on July 16, 2024.
