‘The Sun Shines on Tashkurgan’ (阳光照耀塔什库尔干) is a 2022 Chinese drama directed by Richard Lin.
The film tells the story of a man who travels to a remote village in Tashkurgan and attempts to help the inhabitants improve their way of life. The cast includes Leon Lee, Gulimire Duoerbing, Cao Li, Yeerfan Kuerman, and Yang Keyu.
Synopsis: Peng Guangliang signs up for the Western Volunteer Program, and embarks on a journey to Tashkurgan in Xinjiang with the intention of contributing to the construction of the western region. He originally hopes to use what he has learned to develop tourism, but he is shocked to find there are no roads, no Internet access, and the children take several days to climb over the cliffs to get to school. This small village is remote and poor, inhabited by China’s only caucasian ethnic group: the Tajiks, and his job is to make this backward village a shining pearl in the desperate situation of the plateau. In the face of a desolate and harsh natural environment, Peng Guangliang begins a life that is never desolate, or even magnificent. [© Far East Films]
