‘Undercurrent’ (アンダーカレント) is a 2023 Japanese mystery drama written and directed by Rikiya Imaizumi.

Based on the manga series by Tetsuya Toyoda, the film revolves around the proprietress of a public bathhouse who struggles to stay on top of her business after her husband mysteriously disappears. The cast includes Yoko Maki, Arata Iura, Lily Franky, Eita Nagayama, and Noriko Eguchi.

Synopsis: Kanae (Yoko Maki), the proprietress of a public bathhouse, is at a loss when her husband, Satoru (Eita Nagayama), suddenly disappears. When she manages to reopen the public bath, a mysterious man named Hori (Arata Iura) comes to her and says, “I want to work for you”. He ends up as a live-in worker, and the two begin a strange life together. Meanwhile, Kanae begins searching for the whereabouts of Satoru with the help of shady detective Yamazaki (Lily Franky), who was introduced to her by her friend Kanno (Noriko Eguchi), and learns of unknown facts about her husband one after another.
