‘Worlds Apart’ (違国日記) is a 2024 Japanese drama written and directed by Natsuki Seta.
Based on the manga ‘Ikoku Nikki’ by Tomoko Yamashita, the film revolves around a 35-year-old novelist who volunteers to take in her young niece after her parents pass away. The cast includes Yui Aragaki, Ikoi Hayase, Kaho, Koji Seto, and Rina Komiyama.
Synopsis: Makio Kodai (Yui Aragaki) is a shy 35-year-old woman. She works as a novelist. One day, her sibling and her sibling’s married partner die in a car accident. Makio Kodai attends their funeral and meets her 15-year-old niece Asa Takumi (Ikoi Hayase), who is now left alone due to her parents’ death. The other relatives at the funeral speak insensitive words around Asa Takumi. Makio Kodai gets furious at them and decides to take in her niece.
