‘Shars 51’ (シャーズ51) is a 2026 Japanese horror comedy written and directed by Minoru Kawasaki.
Paying homage to and parodying Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jaws’, the film sees the residents of a small island terrorised by a mutant shark that has left the sea and taken up residence in the surrounding forest. The cast includes Ryosuke Nogi, Andy Wu, Satoshi Kobayashi, Ukulele Eiji, and Goro Ibuki.
Synopsis: After a young woman is found dead on Takeshima Island, police chief Majima suspects a shark attack and attempts to close the island, only to be overruled by influential members of the community. When a boy is subsequently killed in front of a crowd, biologist Funahashi determines that the culprit is a mutant shark capable of living in the nearby forest. Together with professional shark hunter Kujo, Majima and Funahashi set out to destroy the creature, but soon find themselves overwhelmed by its extraordinary power. [© Far East Films]
