‘The Brightest Sun’ (時には懺悔を) is a 2026 Japanese drama directed by Tetsuya Nakashima.
Based on the novel by Bunzo Uchiumi, the film revolves around two private investigators whose investigation into a murder leads them to a severely disabled boy who disappeared during a kidnapping nine years earlier. The cast includes Hidetoshi Nishijima, Hikari Mitsushima, Haru Kuroki, Kankuro Kudo, Ko Shibasaki, and Koji Yakusho.
Synopsis: Private investigator Satake and his assistant Satoko are investigating the murder of a former colleague when their search leads them to a newborn kidnapping case from nine years earlier. At the centre of the mystery is Arata, a severely disabled boy who survived a remarkable series of circumstances and now lives with his father. As Satake and Satoko uncover the connections surrounding him, Arata’s determination to live begins to affect the damaged adults drawn into his story. [© Far East Films]
