‘Let’s Go Slam Dunk’ cannot seem to decide whether it is aiming for heart-felt sentiment or low-brow, ‘Lucky Stars’-style comedy.

The driving force of the film is Dayo Wong’s strutting performance – an aspect that viewers will either love or loathe – and the outrageous scenes of various losers battling on the karaoke stage.

‘Love Undercover 3’ is packed with a cast all too willing to overact for the camera while also featuring a somnolent leading man who offers little for Sit to work with.

This Taiwanese outing is much more Hong Kong than Hollywood, so it comes complete with kick-ass kung fu fights and a group of children that don’t actually make you want to vomit.

A B-movie with some bite, ‘Maria’ stumbles with its by-the-numbers story and unnecessary scenes of torture but is saved by some cool fight scenes and a fierce lead performance from Cristine Reyes.

‘Marry A Rich Man’ is a rom-com film that commits the cardinal crime of not being very romantic.

Inspired, ‘Men in White’ most certainly is, but its overall structure proves somewhat erratic as it’s more a series of loosely-related comedy vignettes than a completely cohesive narrative success.

Despite going the exploitative route and therefore diluting some of the mystery, the film still grips thanks to the ever present sense of something horrible about to happen and a cast who give it their all.

‘Mission Milano’ is exactly what you would expect from Jing; a paper thin plot, overdone action sequences and low-brow humour.

This is a film that begins with optimism only to quickly revert to the old formula that had been so over-used.

‘Monster’ has a few elements that could make for a decent thriller, but the overall picture is sadly spoiled by a number of idiotic characters making even more idiotic decisions.

It’s just so generic, so riddled with the current Chinese cinematic pox that it is impossible to care about.
