‘Queen Of Kowloon’ is a needlessly miserable drama that prefers wallowing in empty disaster to telling a story we might actually find ourselves involved in.

Despite the tantalising title, this flick has nothing to do with John Woo’s genre defining classics but is rather a cheap cash in from the relentless Wong Jing conveyor belt.

‘Returner’ is a bizarre blend of sci-fi and action that rarely really seems to succeed in either genre.

An extremely dated Category III exploitation flick that, a few nasty bits aside, is more camp than cool.

The one thing in the film’s favour is some passable fisticuffs though even this becomes repetitive after the hundredth faceless drone is punched in the head at the end.

For the undemanding genre fan, or neophyte viewers just discovering Asian horror, ‘Seeding of a Ghost’ is that illustrious “beer & pizza” time waster that provides a taster of what else to expect.

The action lacks any spark or excitement and the narrative fails to grab onto the viewer in the slightest.

If you like seventies cheese then you might want to pick this one up. Otherwise it’s probably best to avoid unless you happen to be a hardcore Shaw Brothers or Ti Lung fan.

Director Guo Xiaolu does manage some scenes of striking realism where the drama and relationships work but soap opera theatrics derails the overall dramatic impact of ‘She, A Chinese’.

It’s certainly worth watching once, but as the action is good but not great it is unlikely to require repeat viewings due to it’s shortcomings in other areas.

‘Sixty Million Dollar Man’ is a lazy and disappointingly unfunny outing for all concerned.

‘Skills’ is a decent effort for a parkour themed action film, but is only sporadically entertaining and not as thrilling as it should have been.
