Blu-ray release: ‘Chushingura: The Loyal 47 Ronin’

Imprint Films will release the 1958 Japanese samurai drama ‘Chushingura: The Loyal 47 Ronin’ (忠臣蔵) on Limited Edition Blu-ray in Australia on September 30, 2026.
Directed by Kunio Watanabe, the film recounts the story of the forty-seven ronin who plot to avenge their lord after he is ordered to commit seppuku following an attack on court official Kira Yoshinaka. The cast includes Kazuo Hasegawa, Raizo Ichikawa, Koji Tsuruta, Shintaro Katsu, Machiko Kyo, Ayako Wakao, Michiyo Kogure, and Fujiko Yamamoto.
Synopsis: After Lord Asano Naganori attacks court official Kira Yoshinaka, he is ordered to take his own life, leaving his samurai without a master. Determined to avenge his death, the former retainers secretly prepare their revenge, carefully concealing their intentions until they are ready to launch an assault on Kira’s estate.
