Blu-ray release: ‘Sex and the Emperor’

88 Films will release the 1994 Hong Kong Category III historical drama ‘Sex and the Emperor’ (滿清禁宮奇案) on Blu-ray in the UK on September 28, 2026.
Directed by Sherman Wong, the film follows a palace servant who conceals the fact that he is not a eunuch while becoming entangled in the private affairs of the young Emperor and the intrigue of the imperial court. The cast includes Yvonne Yung Hung, Sung Boon-Chung, Leung Si-Ho, Jimmy Wong Shu-Kei, Stuart Ong, Kingdom Yuen, Julie Lee Wa-Yuet, and Chin Gwan.
Synopsis: A young palace servant enters the imperial court while hiding the fact that his castration was incomplete. His quick thinking soon earns him a position serving Emperor Tongzhi, and the two become close as he assists the young ruler in pursuing his romantic interests. When the emperor defies the Empress Dowager during the selection of his bride, both men find themselves caught in a growing conflict with the powerful figures surrounding the throne.
