Blu-ray release: ‘The Boxer’

Radiance Films will release the 1977 Japanese sports drama ‘The Boxer’ (ボクサー) on Blu-ray in the UK on July 20, 2026, followed by a US release on July 21.
Written and directed by Shuji Terayama, the film follows a former boxing champion who finds a chance at redemption by training a troubled young fighter with little hope of success. The cast includes Bunta Sugawara, Kentaro Shimizu, Masumi Harukawa, Hiroko Isayama, Juro Kara, and Yosuke Natsuki.
Synopsis: A washed-up former boxer struggling to rebuild his life takes on the task of training a troubled young fighter dismissed by those around him. As the two grow closer through the harsh realities of the sport, their partnership develops into a desperate attempt at personal redemption against the backdrop of Tokyo’s gritty underworld.
