Trailer: ‘Butterfly Lovers’

‘Butterfly Lovers’ (梁祝·化蝶) is a 2026 Chinese-Hong Kong animated romantic fantasy directed by Raman Hui.

Based on the traditional Chinese legend, the film follows a young woman who disguises herself as a man so that she can attend an academy, where she meets and falls in love with a fellow student. The voice cast includes Li Yunxiao and Sun Xiangyu.

Synopsis: Longing for the freedom to choose her own path, Zhu Yingtai disguises herself as a man and leaves home to study at an academy. There she meets Liang Shanbo, a poor but dedicated student, and the two quickly form a close bond that gradually develops into love. When Liang discovers Zhu’s true identity, their hopes of being together are thwarted by family expectations and social convention. Unable to share a life together, the lovers ultimately find another way to remain by each other’s side. [© Far East Films]
