‘General Xu Fanting’ (续范亭将军) is a 2026 Chinese historical biographical drama directed by Ding Yinnan.
The film chronicles the final years of General Xu Fanting, tracing his transformation from a patriotic military leader into a committed supporter of the Chinese Communist Party during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The cast includes Zheng Hao, Hou Jingjian, Liu Fangyu, Zang Jinsheng, Li Chengfeng, and Xiao Cong.
Synopsis: In 1935, General Xu Fanting travels to Nanjing to urge Chiang Kai-shek to unite the country against the Japanese invasion. When his appeal is ignored, he attempts suicide by disembowelment at the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in a dramatic act of protest. After surviving the ordeal, Xu dedicates himself to the anti-Japanese resistance, gradually embracing the ideals of the Chinese Communist Party as his political convictions deepen. [© Far East Films]
