‘Rei Kokubu’ (國分玲) is a 2026 Japanese suspense drama directed by Roger D. Cohen.
Inspired by the online urban legend of “Rei Kokubu, a time traveller from 2058”, the film follows a university professor whose research into time travel takes an unexpected turn after a mysterious woman transfers 35 billion yen into his account. The cast includes Tetsu Funagayama, Minami Mito, Amisa Miyazaki, Tomohiro Furuya, and Hidemasa Mase.
Synopsis: University professor Rei Kokubu has devoted his life to researching time travel but struggles to secure the funding he needs. One day, a mysterious woman named Hana Kitayama transfers 35 billion yen into his account, telling him simply to repay her in the future. With inventor Furuta, Rei begins investigating strange phenomena beneath an abandoned building and becomes convinced that the site holds the key to travelling through time. Meanwhile, a young girl named Kazuko awakens after seven years in a coma, and the events she witnesses gradually begin to intersect with Rei’s fate. [© Far East Films]
