‘Revenge in Kobikicho’ (木挽町のあだ討ち) is a 2026 Japanese historical mystery written and directed by Takashi Minamoto.
Based on a novel by Sayako Nagai, the film centres on a notorious revenge killing in Edo that later comes into question as a samurai uncovers conflicting testimony. The cast includes Tasuku Emoto, Ken Watanabe, Kento Nagao, Kazuki Kitamura, and Koji Seto.
Synopsis: In Edo’s lively theatre quarter, a young man becomes a symbol of honour after publicly avenging his father’s death. Much later, a visiting samurai quietly questions those connected to the incident, only to find that each recollection contradicts the last. As the celebrated act of revenge is reexamined, a once-simple story dissolves into layers of deception, performance, and hidden intent. [© Far East Films]
