‘Street Kingdom: Make Your Own Sound’ (ストリート・キングダム 自分の音を鳴らせ。) is a 2026 Japanese music drama directed by Tomorowo Taguchi.
Based on an autobiographical essay by Yuichi Jibiki, the film portrays a photographer drawn into Tokyo’s late-1970s underground punk scene as a new youth movement begins to take shape. The cast includes Kazunobu Mineta, Ryuya Wakaba, Riho Yoshioka, Taiga Nakano, Shotaro Mamiya, Nao Omori, Shido Nakamura, and Sena Nakajima.
Synopsis: In Tokyo in 1978, a young photographer named Yuichi moves to the city after being inspired by the rebellious sound of the Sex Pistols on the radio. Through a small independent rock magazine, he discovers a live music venue filled with the raw energy of an emerging underground scene, where he witnesses a powerful performance by the band TOKAGE led by the vocalist Momo. Captivated by their unrestrained style, Yuichi begins photographing the group and gradually becomes involved in their world. As their music ignites excitement among young audiences, the band and their peers help spark a grassroots punk movement later known as “Tokyo Rockers,” which goes on to reshape the direction of Japanese rock music.
