‘The Botanist’ (植物学家) is a 2026 Chinese coming-of-age drama written and directed by Jing Yi.
The film portrays a lonely boy in a remote border village whose growing bond with nature leads him into a fragile, dreamlike state shaped by memory and longing. The cast includes Yesl Jahseleh, Ren Zihan, Jalen Nurdaolet, Sarhet Eramazan, and Songhat Jomajan.
Synopsis: In a remote valley village along China’s northern Xinjiang border, a solitary Kazakh boy finds comfort in the company of plants. As he searches for traces of a lost past, he retreats into a quiet, imaginative world where memory and nature begin to merge into a dreamlike existence. [© Far East Films]
