‘The Great Skull’ (燃烧吧！爸爸) is a 2026 Chinese comedy drama directed by Liu Xiaoyang.
Inspired by co-writer Zhang Xiaoying’s own experiences, the film follows a mother and daughter whose strained relationship is tested following the death of the family’s father. The cast includes Wen Qi, Ni Hongjie, Yu Entai, Guo Junchen, and Ge Xinyi.
Synopsis: University student Gu Liyan has a complicated relationship with her sharp-witted mother, Wu Kaidi. When her father, Gu Weixing, dies after a long illness, mother and daughter are forced to deal with the unfamiliar and often bewildering process of arranging his funeral. As a succession of unexpected and absurd situations unfolds, the two begin to understand each other in new ways while coming to terms with their loss. [© Far East Films]
