4k UHD & Blu-ray release: ‘A Chinese Ghost Story Trilogy’

Arrow Video will release ‘A Chinese Ghost Story Trilogy’ on Limited Edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray in the UK on October 26, 2026.

Directed by Ching Siu-Tung and produced by Tsui Hark, the trilogy begins with the romance between a timid tax collector and a beautiful ghost before expanding the story across two sequels. The cast across the three films includes Leslie Cheung, Joey Wong, Wu Ma, Jacky Cheung, Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, and Nina Li Chi.

A Chinese Ghost Story (1987): Tax collector Ling Choi-San takes shelter for the night in an abandoned temple, where he meets and falls in love with the beautiful Nip Siu-Sin. After discovering that she is a ghost forced to lure men to their deaths by an evil tree demon, Ling enlists the help of Taoist warrior Yin Chik-Ha to free her from its grasp.

A Chinese Ghost Story II (1990): Ling Choi-San becomes caught up with a group of rebels attempting to rescue their imprisoned leader while battling otherworldly forces. Once again aided by Yin Chik-Ha, he also joins forces with the formidable but eccentric swordsman Chi Chau.

A Chinese Ghost Story III (1991): Set 100 years later, Fong is a bumbling young monk tasked with transporting a golden statue of Buddha to a neighbouring county. His journey leads him into the lair of the tree demon and its ghostly servants.
