Blu-ray release: ‘The Angry River’

88 Films will release the 1971 Hong Kong action fantasy ‘The Angry River’ (鬼怒川) on US Blu-ray on May 12, 2026.

Written and directed by Wong Fung, the film sees a young swordswoman’s search for a cure turn into a quest for vengeance against a ruthless sect. The cast includes Angela Mao, Kao Yuen, Pai Ying, Raymond Lui, and Chang Yi-Fei.

Synopsis: A young swordswoman sets out to find a rare healing herb to save her injured father, only to be drawn into a series of clashes with rival factions seeking it for themselves. After tragedy strikes, her mission turns into one of vengeance, and with the help of a wandering fighter, she sets out to confront the forces responsible.
