‘Cold War 1994’ (寒戰1994) is a 2026 Hong Kong crime thriller co-written and directed by Longman Leung.
The film serves as a prequel to ‘Cold War’ and ‘Cold War II’, centring on a 1990s Hong Kong kidnapping that sparks a power struggle within the police force. The cast includes Daniel Wu, Terrance Lau, Wu Kang-Ren, Chow Yun-Fat, Aaron Kwok, Louis Koo, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, and Tse Kwan-Ho.
Synopsis: In 2017, the sudden disappearance of Li Wenbin (Tony Leung Ka-Fai) and the assassination of Tsui Yuen-kei (Aaron Kwok) in the UK prompt Lau Kit-fai (Chow Yun-Fat) to seek help uncovering a long-buried case file from 1994. Set against the final years before Hong Kong’s handover, as the Political Department faces dissolution, a high-profile kidnapping draws rising officer Li Wenbin (Terrance Lau) and the calculating Tsui Yuen-kei (Daniel Wu) into a tense power struggle within the police force. As British officials, the police, wealthy elites, and criminal factions clash in a web of competing interests, a hidden battle for control unfolds, reshaping the balance of power and setting in motion events that will echo decades later.
