‘Sheep in the Box’ (箱の中の羊) is a 2026 Japanese drama written and directed by Hirokazu Koreeda.

The film follows a grieving couple struggling to move forward after bringing a humanoid version of their dead son into their home. The cast includes Haruka Ayase, Daigo, Rimu Kuwaki, Nana Seino, Kanichiro, and Hinata Hiiragi.

Synopsis: Two years after losing their son, architect Otone and her husband Kensuke, the second-generation owner of a construction company, bring a humanoid modeled after the boy into their home. While Otone embraces him immediately in an attempt to recapture a sense of normality, Kensuke struggles to accept the unsettling presence now living with them. As the family slowly falls into a fragile new routine, buried grief and unresolved feelings surrounding their son’s death begin to surface. Tensions deepen after an unexpected incident forces the couple to confront what they truly want from each other and from the figure they invited into their lives, while the humanoid quietly starts forming connections of its own. [© Far East Films]
