‘The Legend of a Tofu Maker’ (凝脂手) is a 2026 Chinese drama directed by Hu Mei.
The film follows a young woman from Shipai who leaves her hometown with the tofu-making skills passed down by her family and sets out to make a living. The cast includes Jiao Junyan, Zhang Tianyang, Guo Keyu, Sun Zhihong, and Huang Cancan.
Synopsis: Growing up in a poor family in Shipai, Pan Douni gives up the chance to attend high school and learns the traditional craft of tofu-making. After leaving her hometown in search of work, she faces years of hardship before opening a tofu factory with her adoptive brother. Over the decades that follow, Douni builds a successful business while maintaining her connection to the hometown and craft that shaped her life. [© Far East Films]
