Blu-ray release: ‘New Female Prisoner Scorpion: #701’

Discotek Media will release the 1976 Japanese prison thriller ‘New Female Prisoner Scorpion: #701’ (新女囚さそり 701号) on Blu-ray in the US on October 27, 2026.
Directed by Yutaka Kohira, the film serves as a new take on the ‘Female Prisoner Scorpion’ series, following a young woman who is framed for her sister’s murder and sent to prison after becoming caught up in a political conspiracy. The cast includes Yumi Takigawa, Yusuke Natsu, Yoko Konno, Ichiro Nakatani, and Bunjaku Han.
Synopsis: After discovering evidence of a political scandal involving a powerful politician, Nami Matsushima finds herself targeted by those determined to keep the truth hidden. Betrayed by her lover, brutalised and blamed for her sister’s death, she is sentenced to fifteen years in prison for a crime she did not commit. With little left to lose, Nami becomes consumed by revenge and sets out to escape confinement and punish those responsible for destroying her life.
